Byron G. Harlan - Ragtime Recording Artist

(Excerpt taken from Early Record Catalog)

This popular tenor and comedian is one of the most versatile of the company of entertainers and really seems at home in almost any type of work. Mr. Harlan not only sings popular ballads in a remarkably pleasant tenor voice, but is also one of the cleverest and most amusing of comedians. He is at home whether his personation be that of a typical yankee, a wench or an end man in a minstrel show. His success in these particular type of songs are quite unique and is due in a large measure to the way in which his own delightful personality reveals itself through his records. In addition he has a splendid voice and a wonderful faculty for making the words sound clear and understandable, which is no easy task in dialect songs. Mr. Harlan is quite able to please his hearers in this respect, and he is always entertaining both in solos and in the clever duets made with Mr. Collins. The charm of this special kind of art seems to have a never failing appeal for the American public.
